At Cary Medical
Center, we understand
that physicians have a life beyond medicine.
It is our approachable, supportive style and the Cary culture that sets us apart from other
hospitals.
Cary Medical
Center currently has a need for two full-time
Emergency Room Physicians. The newly
renovated, 24-hour ED sees about 19,000 visits per year, including the Walk-In Clinic. The ED is a Level II trauma center, and sees
a wide variety of cases; however, head and neck cases are transported to a
tertiary center. The physicians and
nursing staff are specially trained in emergency medicine. The department has one trauma room and 11
exam rooms; two Walk-In Care rooms with easy access to all diagnostic testing
needs. Although patients are seen in
order of severity of illness, a PA or Nurse Practitioner in the Walk-In Clinic
may see patients with less urgent needs.
The ER physicians typically develop their own shifts, and generally work
three shifts one week and four the next.
In addition to working a full-time schedule, Cary can offer a flexible staffing model, such as per
diem, and part-time; working site visits are welcomed.
Currently, there are two full-time, board certified ER physicians on
staff. Dr. Dan Harrigan has been an ER
physician at Cary
for over 25 years and is the Senior Emergency Medicine Physician. Dr. Beth Collamore
has been at Cary
for over eight years after completing an ER residency at the University of Massachusetts,
Worcester. In Caribou, Maine, it's natural for patients to
appreciate their doctors. We invite you
to experience life in a safe, family-centered community just as Drs. Harrigan
and Collamore and their families have done.
Cary Medical
Center is one of four rural hospitals in Aroostook County; the Emergency Department boasts
the highest patient volume of all four hospitals. The majority of our ER
patients are elderly with cardiac and respiratory complaints comprising a good
portion of our visits, along with the expected primary care and emergent care
visits. Our largest patient transfers consist of psychiatric, trauma,
neurosurgical, and emergency cardiac catheterizations. Cary utilizes the services of a fixed-wing
air ambulance service with a 40-minute in-air time to Bangor, Maine,
location of the nearest Level 1 Trauma Center and Cardiac Cath Lab.
The ER physicians are employees of the hospital and will be paid on an
hourly basis, negotiable based on experience. The hospital will pay a portion of the health
insurance for the physician and will pay the full amount of malpractice
insurance. Additionally, the hospital
will pay up to $600/year for licensing and subscriptions for their
practice. The candidate will receive six
weeks for vacation, CME, sick and holiday time to be used on an annual
basis. The hospital will also provide
CME of up to $2,500 per year and relocation assistance. Education loan repayment is paid in six-month
increments and is typically spread out over five years.
