There are
several types of nuclear medicine procedures, most of which include the
introduction of a small dose of radioactive material that is followed through
the body with the use of highly sophisticated cameras and computers. Nuclear medicine procedures show the function
of the system being investigated, not just the anatomy of the organ or tissue.
Cary Medical Center's
nuclear medicine services have been upgraded to include the state-of-the-art
Siemen's Exam Signature Series Nuclear Medicine Imaging System. This technology is the most advanced
available in northern Maine
and has vastly improved image quality, patient comfort, and the speed by which
exams can be completed. Our dual Gamma
camera uses computer technology to create dynamic images of the skeletal
system, the heart, gallbladder, liver, or for cancer studies. The ‘patient friendly' design of the
instrument virtually eliminates feelings of claustrophobia. Other patient comforts include a built-in
Sony DVD player so patients can watch videos to help pass the time during
nuclear medicine procedures.
