Billing Financial Counselor 40 hrs/week

Job Summary:  To collect all self-pay payments.

Essential Duties:

  1. Contact all overdue accounts with a priority on accounts over $300.00.
  2. Make payment arrangements according to policy.
  3. Consolidate accounts according to policy.
  4. Counsel patients as needed and not on each account via the CPSI system.
  5. Patient complaints are to be handled immediately or as soon as possible and according to policy.
  6. Reports: Bad debt list (regular), free care list, medicare bad debts, employee discounts, employee health and small balance adjustments.
  7. Send payment reports, itemized bills and suit authorizations to collection agency.
  8. Send employee health benefit payroll deduction forms to payroll.
  9. Process patient refunds.
  10. Post payments received from collection agencies.
  11. Assist cashier as needed.
  12. Contact local and state agencies as needed.
  13. Send itemized bills to patients within 24 hours of requests.
  14. Complete free care applications.
  15. Monthly contract and miscellaneous billing.
  16. Write off overdue accounts to bad debt.
  17. Contact private agencies to establish financial aid to patients that qualify.
  18. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Education, Skills, Experience Requirements:

  1. Minimum of an Associates Degree or equivalent experience preferred
  2. Type at least 30 words per minute with accuracy.
