Payroll Manager – 40 hrs/wk – Accounting

Cary Medical Center strives to be the “Employer and Provider of Choice” in healthcare in Northern Maine. We are currently recruiting for a Payroll Manager to join our Accounting Department. The Payroll Manager will be responsible for the oversight of Cary and Pines Payroll, ensuring organizations’ payroll functions and is processed on time, accurately and in compliance with government regulations.

Essential Job Duties:

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  1. Recruits, interviews, hires, and trains new staff in the department.
  2. Oversees the daily workflow of the department.
  3. Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations.

Responsibilities and Management of:

  1. Implements, maintains, and reviews payroll processing systems to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions including salaries, benefits garnishments, taxes and other deductions.
  2. Ensures accurate and timely processing of payroll updates including new hires, terminations, and charges to pay rates.
  3. Prepares and maintains accurate records and reports of payroll transactions.
  4. Ensures compliance with federal, state and local payroll, wage and hour laws and best practices.
  5. Facilitates audits by providing records and documentation to auditors.
  6. Identifies and recommends updates to payroll processing software, systems, and procedures.
  7. Collaborates with Human Resources to create stronger and more efficient process improvements to help streamline routine employee changes impacting payroll.
  8. Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  1. Extensive knowledge of the payroll function including preparation, balancing, internal control, and payroll taxes.
  2. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  3. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  4. Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
  5. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  6. Proficient with payroll software.


License/Educational/Experience/Skill Requirements:
Associates degree required.
Three to five years of related experience required.
Certified Payroll professional designation preferred.
