Resource Registered Nurse 36 hrs/wk (2 positions)

Position Description: Provides quality nursing care according to best practice, current standards and within their scope of practice in a variety of nursing departments. The Resource Nurse has the opportunity to care for patients in the Emergency Department, Acute Care Unit, and Special Care Unit and potentially other nursing areas. Exhibits leadership skills and teamwork, promotes patient advocacy, and supports learning needs of staff and students. The Resource Nurse collaborates with other disciplines to ensure effective and efficient patient care is consistently provided.

 

Essential Duties:

  1. Collaborate with the Nurse Manager, Primary Charge Nurse, or shift Charge Nurse to assist in coordinating and performing specific patient care needs while providing safe, age appropriate nursing care.
  2. Administer care according to established nursing standards and hospital policy, actions reflect use of critical thinking, problem solving and appropriate nursing judgement.
  3. Provide direct patient care, perform head-to-toe assessments on patients across the age continuum.
  4. Demonstrate knowledge and skill in all applicable routes of medication administration, following all rights of safe medication practices.
  5. Demonstrate knowledge and skill in IV therapy administration and complications.
  6. Ensure that informed consent is obtained prior to procedures, evaluate patient understanding, concerns and issues prior to procedure being performed.
  7. Take responsibility for assuring that safe patient care is maintained including following established protocols and use of tools provided by the organization to ensure patient safety.
  8. Maintain established policies and procedures, objectives, safety, environmental and infection prevention standards.
  9. Interact professionally with patients, family members, colleagues, and consultants.
  10. Demonstrate a systematic approach to care and treatment, continuously assessing patient response.
  11. Take appropriate action when assessment and/or lab and diagnostic data is abnormal or significant.
  12. Recognize adverse/critical changes in patient condition and respond appropriately to initiate intervention.
  13. Support multidisciplinary involvement in the plan of care.
  14. Function as an advisor, preceptor, and leader for other members of the patient care team.
  15. May perform a variety of short-term assignments assisting in patient care areas with immediate support needed during the shift.
  16. Recognize patient bill of rights, treating all patients with respect and compassion.

 

Availability Requirements:

  1. Primarily, the designated shift with be 12-hour day shifts from 0700-1900.
  2. Depending on department staffing needs, you may be asked to work nights, weekends, and holidays.

 

License Requirements:

  1. Maintains current Register Nurse licensure for the State of Maine.

 

Education, Skills, Experience Requirements:

  1. Maintain current BLS certification.
  2. Maintain current ACLS certification.
  3. Meet nursing annual training competencies.
  4. Minimum of 1-2 years experience in critical care nursing (i.e. SCU, ED).
