Respiratory Therapist Aide/CNA – 35 hrs/wk – Respiratory Department

Job Summary:

Performs CNA functions and assists registered respiratory therapists as necessary. Maintains a positive working relationship with co-workers and demonstrates excellent customer service skills.

 

Essential Duties:

 

  1. Helps to maintain unit supplies and equipment to meet patient care needs.
  2. Provide clear and concise instructions to patient as necessary.
  3. Perform electrocardiograms according to standard department procedure, assuring proper lead placement and minimal artifact.
  4. Perform electroencephalography according to standard department procedure.
  5. Perform Holter monitoring according to standard department procedure, assuring proper lead placement, and explicit patient instruction.
  6. Competently assists with cardiac stress testing.
  7. Adhere to decontamination and sterilization procedures established for equipment.
  8. Report patient and staff incidents as outlined in hospital-wide policy.
  9. Ensure departmental compliance with applicable federal, state and local regulatory agencies and with professional licensure.
  10. Interact with medical staff in a manner conducive to improving cardiopulmonary services.
  11. Assists to schedule cardiopulmonary patients for PFT, EEG, and Holter monitoring appointments and makes reminder calls as necessary.
  12. Assists with QM data collection including O2 rounding, crash cart checks, critical EKG data, etc.
  13. Any other duties assigned within scope of practice.

 

Other Responsibilities:

  1. Complies with local, state, and federal laws and regulations.

 

Organization Requirements:

  1. Report to work on time and as scheduled.
  2. Wear identification while on duty.
  3. Use computerized punch system correctly.
  4. Adhere to dress code, appearance is neat and tidy.
  5. Maintain and ensure patient confidentiality at all times.
  6. Comply with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.
  7. Maintain regulatory requirements as applicable (e.g. licensing, certification).
  8. Attend department staff meetings.
  9. Adhere to safety policies as evidenced by in-service attendance records and employee practices.
  10. Park in designated employee areas, allowing accessible parking for the elderly, ill, and visitors.
  11. Do not exceed 3% unscheduled absences.

Work Habits:

  1. Complete work within designated time.
  2. Demonstrate the ability to work independently and maintain accountability for own actions.
  3. Show initiative and follow-through.
  4. Demonstrate productivity at work (makes good use of down time).
  5. Perform duties willingly and enthusiastically.
  6. Return to work from breaks, meals, meetings, and in-services in a timely fashion.
  7. Take appropriate actions when safety issues are identified (report hazardous situations to appropriate person, remove malfunctioning equipment, etc.)
  8. Follow recommendations designed to reduce worksite injuries (proper body mechanics, personal protective gear, safe sharps, etc.).
  9. Demonstrate the ability to be flexible, organized, and function under stressful situations.
  10. Demonstrate judicious use of supplies.

 

License Requirements: 

  1. High school diploma or G.E.D.
  2. Maintains a current C.N.A. certificate in the State of Maine
  3. Successfully completes EKG/Holter monitoring training and associated competency.
  4. Maintains current BLS certification.

 

Availability Requirements:

  1. Monday-Friday, 630am-2pm. This schedule may change without notice based on the needs of the department.

 

Education, Skills, Experience Requirements:

  1. Computer skills required as related to diagnostic equipment.
  1. Excellent interpersonal (verbal and written communication) and customer service skills.
  2. Must be able to perform well in stressful situations.
  3. Maintains a high degree of responsibility, accountability, and flexibility.
  4. Medical terminology not required, but desired.
