Cary Medical Center's Emergency Department is a level II trauma center staffed 24-hours every day with an emergency medicine physician and certified emergency nurses. With eleven treatment rooms, it is the busiest Emergency Department in northern Maine averaging more than 20,000 visits per year. Although patients are seen in order of the severity of their illness or injury rather than on a first come/first serve basis, our Emergency Department team strives to see every patient in a timely manner. We understand that being in an emergency situation can be very scary and that seeing a physician as quickly as possible can help ease the anxiety for the patient and their family. Our highly trained Emergency Department team also includes adult and pediatric critical care transport nurses. These professionals are trained to care for the most critically ill or injured patients who require transport to another healthcare facility. In cooperation with the Caribou Fire and Ambulance Department and Fresh Air Transportation, we can provide emergency ground and air transportation for these patients. Additionally, we have sexual assault nurse examiners on staff who are trained to respond to situations that may include sexual assault. |
