Cardiac Rehabilitation

Cary Medical Center’s cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation program includes exercise sessions and health education for people who have had a heart attack, Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery, angioplasty, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, emphysema, asthma, or other types of heart or lung disease.

The program has two phases.  Phase I begins while the patient is in the hospital.  The patient is assessed and the rehabilitation plan is developed and implemented.  Each plan is personalized to best suit the patient’s disease, fitness level, age, and other medical factors.  Phase II is designed for participants who are not hospitalized, but who would benefit from supervised exercise sessions three times per week for 8 – 12 weeks. Referral from a Primary Care Provider is required.

In each phase of the program, participants receive education and counseling about nutrition, exercise, alternative therapies, and other health topics from that can improve their rehabilitation success.   The department is staffed by a team of specially trained medical professionals and the program is under the supervision of an Internal Medicine physician.

Our Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation program is certified by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACPR).  This national certification signifies that our program meets or exceeds the high quality standards set by the AACPR.
