Dr. Herland and his team now offer kyphoplasty to treat the pain of compression fractures. Kyphoplasty is an X-ray guided procedure which restores some of the lost height and places bone cement into the vertebral body to immediately stabilize the fracture. One or two needles are placed into the fractured bone. A drill and balloon are used to restore lost height and create a cavity for cement injection. After cement is injected, it hardens rapidly. Patients go home the same day and results are usually best if performed within a month or two of the fracture.
Benefits of Kyphoplasty:
- Pain Relief
- Partial Height Restoration
- Improved Function and Quality of Life
- Reduced Mortality
