Cary Medical Center is proud to announce that Gabrielle Jandreau, Occupational Therapist with the Cary Rehabilitation Department, has earned her certification in Vestibular Rehabilitation and Concussion Management through the American Institute of Balance. This accomplishment makes Jandreau the only occupational therapist north of Bangor to hold this specialized certification.
“This type of education and certification is highly needed in our community,” said Jandreau. “There are many individuals in our region dealing with vertigo, dizziness, and other chronic balance-related disorders who are unaware that effective treatment options exist. I’m also working to connect with local healthcare providers to educate them on how I can assist their patients with these conditions.”
With this certification, Jandreau is equipped to treat symptoms resulting from a wide range of vestibular disorders, including Meniere’s disease, vestibular neuritis, labyrinthitis, and other balance and dizziness-related issues. She is also trained in performing many maneuvers to treat Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo, including the Epley maneuver, a proven treatment for certain types of vertigo.
Her approach incorporates a comprehensive 3-tier system—visual, vestibular, and somatosensory—which is designed to restore stability and confidence in patients suffering from vestibular dysfunction.
In addition to vestibular rehabilitation, Jandreau is now able to assess and manage concussion-related symptoms. She provides individualized care plans to monitor healing, reduce symptoms like headaches and brain fog, and support a safe return to school, work, or athletic activities. For student-athletes, this means a structured, medically guided return-to-play process that ensures both physical and cognitive recovery before resuming sports. Jandreau is eager to educate community members and coaching staff on what to watch for to identify concussion on the field.
“We are thrilled to have Gabrielle bring this level of care to our patients. Her dedication to advancing her skills and knowledge is a tremendous asset to our department and the community,” Christine Helstrom, MSOTRL and Manager of the Cary Rehabilitation Department. “This certification will allow us to expand the services we provide and offer hope to patients who have often struggled for years with these challenging symptoms.”
Cary Medical Center continues to support its rehabilitation staff in professional development efforts, ensuring the highest standard of care for patients in northern Maine.
