Anesthesiologists and Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) are medical providers who administer medications to block pain or sedate patients for surgical procedures. Anesthesiologists are medical doctors who are primarily responsible for ensuring that the patient is pain-free and tolerating the procedure well during surgery. CRNAs are registered nurses who have had additional training in anesthesiology. They support the anesthesiologist during surgical procedure and may administer anesthesia during other surgical procedures.
