The family of the late Walter Reid Morrill is pleased to announce two recipients of the 2025 Walter Reid Morrill Memorial Scholarship: Katherine Bechtel of Caribou and Vivinene Prashaw of Washburn. The $500 annual scholarship was established in Morrill’s memory to offer financial assistance to local students going into the Nursing field.

“The family is pleased to be able to provide this scholarship to two worthy students in our father’s memory,” said the Morrill Family, formerly of New Sweden. “To be able to help local students pursue their nursing education is something that makes us proud. We wish Vivinene and Katherine all the best in their pursuits, and hope to see them return to Aroostook County in the future.”

Prashaw recently graduated from Caribou High School, and is a student athlete with excellence in academics. She has also been an active member of her community. Prashaw will attend the University of Maine this fall and has been invited to join the University of Maine Honors College this fall as she pursues her Nursing degree.

Bechtel also recently graduated from Caribou High School. Bechtel has been recognized by the state for completing more than 50 hours of volunteer service hours in the community. She volunteers regularly at Gustaf Adolph Lutheran Church. Bechtel will attend the University of Maine at Presque Isle this fall to pursue her degree in Nursing.

The Scholarship program is administered by the Jefferson Cary Foundation at Cary Medical Center. Presenting the scholarship award to Bechtel and Prashaw is Chelsey Anderson, Executive Director of the Jefferson Cary Foundation.
